Olympic Committee of Equatorial Guinea (COGE) Meets for 2012 Olympics Review

The directors and board of the COGE (the Olympic Committee of Equatorial Guinea), led by its chairman, Manuel Sabino Asumu Kawan, met last week for the first time after the London Olympics. Among the issues at hand was the donation of computer equipment to the National Sports Federation, whose funds come from the aid of Olympic Solidarity, which organises assistance for National Olympic Committees (NOCs).

The COGE reached financial stability earlier this year, thanks to the recovery of international subsidies that were suspended for four years due to the global economic crisis.

Equatorial Guinea to Host 8th Biennial African Women’s Championship

The 8th African Women’s Championship will take place from this October 28 to November 11, 2012 in Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea will get the championship underway against South Africa in the opening match to be played at Nouveau Stade in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, on October 28.  Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo will play the second match of the championship in the same stadium afterwards.

Nigeria, seven time champions and current holders of the title, will open against Cameroon in Bata, on the mainland of Equatorial Guinea, on October 29. Cote d’Ivoire and Ethiopia (Group B) are scheduled to kick-off at 5.30 PM at Nkoantoma Stadium in Bata later in the day.

El Sony Ela Nguema: Champions of the Equatoguinean Premier League

After a 5-1 win against Nzok-Nzomo, El Sony claimed the league title for the third straight year, with 72 points.

El Sony, doing their best Real Madrid impression, dominated Nzok-Nzomo throughout the entire match. They celebrated their victory with champagne and beer on the field.

This season, El Sony lost only two games: one to rival Atletico de Malabo and one to Deportivo Mongomo.  Now, they move onto the Champions League where they’ve been eliminated in the first phase of their last few appearances.

Equatorial Guinea’s FEGUIFUT Soccer Course Reaches Conclusion

For two weeks, the headquarters of the Equatorial Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT) was the venue of this intensive course for football coaches, in which, for the first time, women have also taken part. Concluded on October 2, the course had a total of 25 participants, most of them former players of the national team and local teams, including seventeen women. The course, sponsored by the FIFA, was conducted in a record time of two weeks.

Draw of the Women’s CAN 2012


On Tuesday, July 17, the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football in Cairo held the draw of groups for the eighth edition of the African Cup of Women’s Football, which will be held from October-November 2012 in Equatorial Guinea. The draw resulted in strong pairings, with Equatorial Guinea opening the competition against Bayana Bayana of South Africa on October 28 at the Stadium of Malabo. The teams know each other well, playing for the first time against each other in the semi-finals of the CAN 2010 in South Africa, where the Women’s Nzalang claimed victory.
