Equatorial Guinea Receives Praise for Sporting Federation by FIFA

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea was praised for the work of the Equatorial Guinean Federation by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) during the 67th FIFA Congress in Bahrain.

The FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted his admiration and support for the Federation and the work of FEGUIFUT President, Andrés Jorge Mbomio.

The Federation also received praise from former Barcelona player Ronaldinho, Real Madrid player Michel Salgado, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, and the FIFA Vice President, Ángel María Villar.

The FIFA Congress discussed future reforms for the organization, the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, the suspension of the Guatemala Federation, and the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Equatorial Guinea Hosts Padel Tournament

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea hosted the III Padel Tournament at the Cano Sports Complex in Malabo.

The tournament included 36 athletes from all over the world competing at the highest level of the racquet sport.

The world-class sports complex in Malabo has hosted the African Cup of Nations, and includes a football and athletics stadium which can seat over 15,000, as well as an Olympic swimming pool and running track, among other facilities. Equatorial Guinea Padel Tournament

Equatorial Guinea to host Africa Cup of Nations

Screen Shot 2015-01-13 at 3.07.41 PMEquatorial Guinea will host the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2015), main Pan-African football competition, to be held in Malabo, Bata, Ebebiyin and Mongomo from January 17 to February 8. The West African nation also hosted the CAN in 2012.

The country is ready to welcome the national and expatriate players who will participate on the CAN 2015. The government of Equatorial Guinea has taken all the necessary preventive measures to avoid a possible case of Ebola.

Equatorial Guinea’s national team, the Nzalang, will be led by its recently appointed coach, Esteban Becker. A young Equatorial Guinean referee, Joaquin Ela Esono Eyang, will join well-known referees throughout the CAN 2015. Joaquin Ela Esono Eyang was born in 1985. His father had a long career as a referee and, after his death in 2000, Joaquin joined the referee school in 2002. In early 2013 he was promoted to the rank of international central referee of the FIFA (International Federation of Association Football).

Ticket prices range from 500 CFA francs (less than 1 Euro) to 5,000 CFA francs in Ebebiyin and Mongomo, and from 1,000 CFA francs to 15,000 CFA francs in the VIP areas in Malabo and Bata.

Chuku Chuku, a friendly and colorful porcupine, one of the most characteristic species of the Equatoguinean forests, is the name of the official mascot of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sporting Club of Portugal Sponsors Equatorial Guinea’s Sport Academy

Equatorial Guinea’s Cano Sport Academy recently signed an agreement with Sporting Club of Portugal to receive training and knowledge transfer from the renowned European club.

During the signing ceremony, the Vice President of the Portuguese club said,”We plan for the benefits to be equitable. To start, one of the immediate actions that will be carried out is to make available to Cano Sport the official equipment of Sporting; a real working structure is going to be put into motion through the training of coaches, technicians, as well as the administrators.”

The Cano Sport academy was created in March, after selecting 77 students out of 1,200 children, to form the three teams of the school.

Athletes compete in Malabo

Equatorial Guinea’s capital hosted the 19th National Athletics Competition – bringing together talented runners and athletes from all over the country to compete in the New Stadium of Malabo. It has been years since the last competition was held due to problems with the federation.

The athletes, this year, have demonstrated a noticeable improvement in talent and are starting to be recognized individually for their outstanding performances in distinguishable competitions. Among the most well-known were Mario Ela Ndong, 200m medalist, and Sonia Gervan and Maria de los Ángeles, both leading the 100m women’s trial.
